Harih Om Tat Sat.
It is gratifying to inform you about this year’s Anna-Vastra
Daana Satram. Started with distribution of rice, cloth and
sweet to 150 families in 1986, the event grew into a yearly
Satram, reaching 25,000 families last year. In this
25th year
of the event we are extending it to Delhi and Jamshedpur
through our Centre for Inner Resources Development (CIRD),
Delhi unit and Jamshedpur unit. The first Anna-Vastra
Daana Satram at CIRD – Delhi was held on 4th April,
when we were there. 3 kg of rice, a shirt/saree, some sugar
and a packet of sweet were distributed to about 1,500 migrant
labourer families living in slums around CIRD. May 2010 issue
of Vicharasetu carried the news of this event.
Role of daana cannot be
over-emphasized. As a holy means to purify one’s wealth as
well as to expand one’s heart and mind, daana ranks
supreme. Among Yajna, Daana, and Tapas, which
constitute the foundation for virtuous life and well
being of society, daana alone has the potential to
bestow joy to the giver and receiver alike. Narayanashrama
Tapovanam and Hind Navotthana Pratishtan have jointly been
conducting Anna-Vastra Daana Satram with such a great spirit
and purpose.
Distribution in Kerala
will begin in the first week of July. Over a period of six
weeks, it will take place from about 50 village centres. The
event at Narayanashrama Tapovanam will be on 31st July
and in Vyasa Tapovanam in the first week of August. Tokens
will be issued in advance to the recipient families. Each
Centre will welcome the recipients with aarati and
Vedic chants, and daana materials will be given by
Sannyaasins, in the background of chorus Naama-sankeertana.
Giving sewing machines
to deserving indigent ladies, under self employment project,
is an important part of Daana Satram. This year also we plan
to give 40 machines after testing the skill of the recipients.
These apart, our monthly distribution of 15 kg of rice and a
little money to more than 350 destitute people continues.
Benevolent Holy Missions like
this can be conducted only with the hearty participation of
many like you.
Please inform your friends and
relatives about the Satram, so that they also can have the
opportunity to participate in the holy endeavour.
Love, regards and ashirvaad.
